A long story of disputes was put to a happy end. The outstanding and even exemplary result was achieved by the construction of a Kindergarten, a cafe, a civic hall and food market.

The municipal building adapts skilfully to the terrain. The south-eastern part - the fire station - follows the course of the road, and the community hall is located at the ground level. The Mayor’s office, the family counselling center and the rehearsal studio are upstairs.

Although the community center in the style of the 70s is rather inconspicuous from the outside, the interior is worth to be seen. The colored glass walls that divide the offices on both storeys represent a remarkable art project.

The community hall Sulzberg was newly built at the old location. The height difference was used to create two main levels. The prominent entrance to the town hall is accessed via the stairs. On the ground-level the bars can be entered directly from the village road. The building features a remarkable surround-sound installation by Roland Stecher.

Koblach’s new center is formed by the town hall complying with passive energy standards and the village square with the village well. The two levels of the spacious and traffic free village square are connected by wide stairways and ramps.

The angular exterior made of gray gravel concrete contrasts with the warm wooden interior construction. A lateral access zone with a wardrobe, a library and a bar confines the newly created village square. The actual height of the new building is only visible from the valley below.

The workshop and residential building of a former textile company fulfilled all the requirements for a town hall due to its location at the town centre. The course of the Mühlebach flowing below the three-storey hall is noticeable throughout the building. While the glazed front construction provides access to a public service zone, the back part of it accommodates the offices, the meeting rooms as well as the seminar and lecture room.

The community center Ludesch is an example from the textbook for dedicated sustainable construction by using only local timber, renewable raw materials and strictly non-toxic materials based on the approach of regional value enhancement.

The four-storey solitary building made of timber and complying with passive energy standards unites the community center, the town hall, the kindergarten and the village shop on the steep southern slope in the Great Walser Valley.

The community center was awarded the Bauherrenpreis in 2004 and unites the elementary school, the municipal administration office, an inn and the village shop under one roof. The design of the solid wood construction met with wide approval among citizens and decision-makers who were integrated in the process from the beginning.

The construction of the community center closes the existing ensemble of the church, the school house and the inn from the valley. It was built according to passive energy standards; only wood from the biosphere reservation Großes Walsertal was used.
